Ingredients |
- 4 large Green Tomatoes
- 1 1/2 c. Buttermilk
- 2 c. Fine Cornmeal
- 2 tbs. Salt
- 2 tsp. Ground Black Pepper
|
Directions |
Cut off ends and slice each tomato into about three 1/2 inch pieces. Put the slices in a large bowl, add buttermilk, and turn to coat each slice. Marinate 5 minutes. Place a large, heavy skillet over medium-high heat. Add oil to fill 2/3 of the pan and heat to 325 degrees. In a bowl mix cornmeal, salt and pepper. Remove tomatoes from buttermilk, shaking off the excess milk, and dip in cornmeal coating each side. Shake off excess cornmeal and slip slices in a single layer into the oil. Fry until golden brown, 2-3 minutes each side. Drain on paper towels and serve. |
